Motek implements SAP platform on AWS in 6 months
Motek is a supplier of tools and fixings to the construction industry with 290 employees across Norway and Sweden. The company operates 29 stores and has over 100 salespeople serving construction sites daily. After significant growth since 1954, Motek had outgrown their existing IT solution.

To support future expansion and new customer services, the company needed a complete platform replacement. Pearl Group delivered a new SAP solution on Amazon Web Services in just 6 months, covering all business processes.
The modern platform now supports Motek's demanding operations: 24-hour delivery across southeastern Norway and a workshop that repairs 30,000 tools annually with three-day turnaround targets. Pearl continues to manage daily operations, maintenance, and new functionality deployment.
Challenge
Motek had achieved significant success since their founding in 1954 when they secured the Hilti contract. Growing from a small operation to 290 employees across Norway and Sweden, the company had outgrown their previous IT solution.
As a direct supplier of tools and fixings to the construction industry, importing strong brands like Hilti, Festool, and Stanley Bostitch while maintaining their own Motek brand, the company needed an IT platform that could support continued expansion and enable new service offerings to customers.
The company's operational model demanded exceptional reliability. With commitments to 24-hour delivery across southeastern Norway and three-day repair turnarounds for approximately 30,000 tools annually, system downtime was not an option.
Solution
Pearl Group delivered a complete SAP platform replacement in just 6 months, implementing the solution as a cloud service on Amazon Web Services. The comprehensive implementation covered all of Motek's business processes, replacing the entire IT infrastructure.
The partnership extended beyond implementation, with Pearl assuming responsibility for daily operations, maintenance, and deployment of new functionality. This total ownership model proved essential for Motek's operational requirements.
"The best thing about our cooperation with Pearl is that they understand our business. They are used to working with small and medium-sized companies, like ours, not just the biggest. Because of that, they can adjust a professional IT solution to fit a business of our size," explains Managing Director Vegard Halden.
Customer's benefits
The new platform delivers the rock-solid reliability Motek requires for their demanding operational commitments. The system supports their industry-leading delivery precision, enabling 24-hour delivery across southeastern Norway and maintaining their workshop's three-day repair turnaround for 30,000 annual tool repairs.
"For this to work, we are entirely dependent on a good back-office system. SAP needs to work every day, all the time, and we don't have time for system problems," notes Head of IT Ketil Greve Aubert.
The implementation exceeded expectations for speed and simplicity. "Our experience is that the upgrade has been much simpler than we had feared. After we got started, it was less than two months from we gave the go-ahead and until we were up and running on the new version," Aubert explains.
Pearl's total responsibility model proved crucial to success. "It is essential for us to have a partner who takes total responsibility for both database operations and the SAP application. Pearl does that. In addition, they are pleasant to work with; we can talk to them, and we can talk with them. That is why they are an easy choice of collaborator for us, given that we are looking to grow and develop in the future," Aubert concludes.
The partnership positions Motek for continued growth while maintaining the operational excellence their customers depend on.
The best thing about our cooperation with Pearl is that they understand our business. They are used to working with small and medium-sized companies, like ours, not just the biggest. Because of that, they can adjust a professional IT solution to fit a business of our size.
