After work: Meet Caroline Haukås

Caroline Haukås is FICO Principal consultant and Team Lead for the finance team in Pearl Norway. Get to know her better!

Where are you from, and where do you live now:

- I am from North Carolina, USA, but have soon lived half of my life here in Norway.  I have also lived in Germany and Hungary for short periods.  In theory, I am  almost more Norwegian than American and have newly become a citizen here, but I will never forget my roots.  For me it is true that «You can take the girl out of North Carolina, but you can’t take the North Carolina out of the girl”

My working day:

- My job in Pearl has a lot of similarities with what I have done the rest of my 25 year career as a SAP FICO consultant.  I work with customers on new implementations, maintenance and improvements within the finance and accounting area of the system. Many look at accounting as either boring or cryptic, but I look at it like a puzzle.  I feel fortunate to have worked with companies in a variety of industries and to have contributed to their progress.

What is new for me in Pearl is my Teamlead role.  I don’t exactly feel like a leader in the traditional sense, because I don’t actually like to walk in the lead.  Last year I saw a picture of a wolfpack, there the packleader walked in the back, shepherding the flock.  In the picture, the strong wolves led the way and protected the younger wolves. I can see that my team, and my role in it, is somewhat like this picture.  We have many very capable and experienced consultants who really bring our customers forward.  At the same time, they show our trainees and newer consultants how to meet our customers and solve their challenges.  I am thrilled to be a resource for my colleagues on this journey.

My biggest hero(s):

- My greatest heros are my children.  Each day I reflect about how lucky I am that they call me Mom.  I love them dearly and i am extremely proud of them.  They have a goodness that we need more of in the world.  They inspire me to be a better person…and probably a funnier one also.

Everyday happiness for me:

- Seeing someone smile because of something I have done really makes my day.  It is often something small: A compliment, a cupcake, or maybe some help posting a document.

Qualities I appreciate in others:

- People who are accepting and who give others room to soar and make mistakes without judgement.  A good portion of humor doesn’t hurt either.

After work:

– Well, I seem to have an above average interest in making things to eat and drink, and a lot of my free time goes to this hobby in one form or another.  I have always liked to cook, but the joy of mass production came when the kids were younger and there were birthdays, graduations and hall-duty for handball.  It stated with cupcakes, but has expended to conserving, fermenting, brewing, mushroom- and berry picking. I have a bit of a challenge to get rid of everything I make, so I am always looking for willing recipients. I do actually do things that are not food related:  I really enjoy yoga, love to travel and have recently started to sail.
