Meet 3 Consultants who switched into SAP Careers at Pearl

Meet 3 Consultants who switched into SAP Careers at Pearl

Pearl believes in developing people's potential. One of our initiatives is Pearl Accelerate - a specific career program where people with backgrounds in finance, logistics, accounting, and technology get the opportunity to make a career change and train as SAP consultants.

Meet Rahma, Elias, and Pernille from our offices in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark, who share their experiences in the journey of transitioning from previous roles into SAP Consultants.

Rahma Omar - Junior Consultant EWM & TM

Hi Rahma, would you like to start by telling us a bit about yourself and your role?
My name is Rahma Omar, and I work at the Gothenburg office. I have a background in logistics and Supply Chain Management, with both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in the field. Before joining Pearl, I worked mostly with Supply Chain and Transport Logistics, especially as a transport planner and Delivery Coordinator.

Today, I'm a junior consultant at Pearl, working with SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) and Transportation Management (TM).

What made you apply to Pearl Accelerate?
I wanted to work somewhere that truly prioritises development, both personal development and growth within the company. It was important to me that my new workplace cared about lifting everyone’s knowledge level, and that came across clearly in the application for Pearl Accelerate.

My expectations have definitely been met. The program is a good mix of training, hands-on practice, and solid mentorship. It really gives me the foundation I need for my journey at Pearl.

How do you feel your development has been so far? In what ways does Pearl help you stay ahead?
I’ve gained a much deeper understanding of SAP theory, while also getting to work practically in the system. That combination has helped everything “click”. Of course, development is partly about taking your own responsibility, but I really feel that Pearl gives us all the tools we need to succeed.

Switching perspective from user to implementer has been both challenging and very rewarding. It took some time to adjust my mindset, but it’s given me a completely new understanding of the system. And now that I’ve passed my first certification, it feels like proof that I really grasp the bigger picture.

What do you see ahead for your future at Pearl, both in your role and within your field?
I’m very positive about the future here. What I appreciate most is that there’s always something new to learn as SAP never stops evolving. Even colleagues who’ve been here for over 15 years still see themselves as learners.

I want to keep developing as well, no matter how long I work here. And Pearl feels like the right place for that.

What would you say to someone who works in a different field today but is thinking about switching careers?
Just go for it! Changing paths can feel huge, but it’s absolutely worth it. At Pearl, it’s clear that people are valued. It’s incredibly motivating to join a workplace where your knowledge and contributions really matter.

Elias Hermann Mauseth - Junior SAP Finance Consultant

Hi Elias! Tell us a bit about yourself and your role.
My name is Elias, I’m 28 years old, and I’m from Ski just outside Oslo. I have a degree in economics. After living four years on Svalbard, I moved back to Oslo this summer with my partner, and now I work as a junior consultant within SAP Finance at Pearl.

Why did you apply to the Pearl Accelerate Program?
For me, it was important to find a workplace where I could use my experience as Head of Accounting on Svalbard in a meaningful way. That’s when I came across the application for Pearl Accelerate.

I actually already knew about Pearl because I actually applied for a trainee position back in 2020. During my studies I focused a lot on digitalisation for business development, and Pearl gave a presentation at the time that really caught my interest.

So Pearl had been on my mind since then. It seemed exciting and genuinely interesting, and I felt curious about how people worked here. When the opportunity came up again, I thought, “Why not try once more?” This time it worked out, and I’m really happy about that!

How do you feel about your development so far? How does Pearl help you stay ahead?
The learning curve has been steep, with a lot to take in - listening, reading, and trying to understand everything. Pearl does a great job giving us as much knowledge as possible, but SAP is huge, and you probably learn best through practical work.

My background in accounting is valuable. I recognise a lot, and I can link new knowledge to what I already know. I genuinely feel that Pearl helps me stay ahead: I get challenges, support, and space to build on my existing strengths.

How do you see your future at Pearl, both in your role and within your field?
Learning by doing is key. The team includes me in projects and wants me to grow, which is both motivating and confidence-building. There’s a healthy level of expectations that pushes me forward.
How fast I become fully independent remains to be seen, but I’m excited about the journey.

What would you say to someone considering a career change?
I’d say: absolutely give it a try. It’s been fun discovering that you can do something quite different from the traditional accounting roles, and that you don’t have to stay in the same type of job just because that’s what you’ve done before.

Pearl has really seen my potential and found a way to use my skills in a new and valuable way. I think many others could benefit from thinking a bit broader and daring to switch paths.

Pernille Hougaard - Software Engineer

Hi Pernille, can you tell us a bit about yourself and your role?
My name is Pernille, I’m 37 years old, and I recently graduated as a software engineer. Today, I work as a consultant in the technology and development team at Pearl Denmark. I’m currently on my first project, where I’m developing in the BTP environment.

Before changing careers, I worked as a psychomotor therapist. After having children, I felt a need for something new. I chose tech because I saw a connection between how people work and how technology works. Now, I get to help build solutions that make things easier for others, which is very motivating.

Why did you apply to the Pearl Accelerate Program?
What caught my interest was the blend of technology, people, and business. When I started looking into Pearl, I quickly had a positive feeling. For me, it was important to know if the consultant role could be balanced with family life and clear structure.

It turned out Pearl was the perfect match. Part of the company’s DNA is that there’s room for different types of consultants; those who want to work a lot, and those who, like me, need flexibility and stability. That was a big reason I chose the program, here everything just felt right.

How do you see your development so far? In what ways does Pearl help you stay ahead?
I’ve learned a little about a lot, and that has been very helpful now that I’m working in my first project. With the bigger picture in place, it’s easier to know what I need to dive deeper into. That overview is probably the biggest advantage of the program.

I also think Pearl has created a culture where you feel you can contribute from day one. There’s a genuine belief that both new and experienced consultants have something to teach each other, and that’s helped me grow into the consultant role.

How do you see your future at Pearl, both in your role and in your field?
I want to contribute in the intersection between technology and people. I’m also interested in AI and machine learning, but at the moment I’m focusing on the fundamentals such as cloud development and application development.

Pearl is a company that recognises that career paths can change, and that there’s room to move in new directions if you want to. And if I can find a “sweet spot” where I can combine my technical skills with my understanding of people, that would be ideal for me.

What would you say to someone who is thinking about changing careers?
Many people hesitate to take the next step, not because they don’t know they should, but because they can’t see the whole path ahead.

I’ve worked a lot on accepting that the road doesn’t always need to be clear from the beginning. You have to take the step anyway, even if you can’t see the entire journey. You get to know the road as you walk it.
